Spencer UpDate

well Spencer is actually worse off than we thought. he has Progressive Retinal Degeneration in both of his eyes. There is nothing that we can do to stop it, only prolong the end result, which will eventually be blindness in both eyes. :-(....... He is almost blind in his left eye although she thinks he can still see a bit, and the other eye is just in the beg. stages of the PRD... He will be on medication (a food supplementt and a medication) basically forever until he is totally blind. She told me that it could take six months it could be 5 years before he is totally blind, and possible if he reacts well to the medication he might hang on to some vision for ever.. so we basically just do what we can to keep his eyes as healthy as we can as long as he can.... She also assured me that blind dogs or vision impaired dogs live happy long lives, that they adjust to it well and don't even realize whats happening especially if it happens slowly which it will with him... (she told me that dogs wont sit around and lament there lot in life...like we do ) so as upset as i am, I'm positive that he will still have a long happy life as he looses his vision. and maybe we can get him a seeing eye cat...:-)
